In 2001 Arborjet consulted with the United Arab Emirates government on saving their largest Agricultural industry, the Date Palm from the Red Palm Weevil insect pest. After five years we returned to follow up on this pest which threatens billions of trees in the entire mid east. Joe Lojko, Arborjet’s Research and Development Field Trial Specialist and our European representative Stefano Gregoretti, worked to qualify and quantify the results of treating these trees nutritionally and with small dosages of an organo phosphate product. We feel we can ward off this pest through nutrition in non infested areas. We also feel that infested trees that are salvageable can be saved with low dosages of an organo phosphate early on in their life cycle. There has been no other success in the eradication of this pest and Arborjet is proud to participate in this promising trial. The insect problems in the mid-east are devastating, just as they are here in our own country and around the world. We are also working on the Bagworm in Indonesia and Malaysia as it affects the Palm oil industry. We will keep you informed of the progress on these trials in future Arborjet news letters.
